Gr 1-3 Foundation Phase
The Foundation Phase consists of Grades 1 to 3.
The medium of instruction is English and Afrikaans.
We work within the guidelines as set out by the Gauteng Department of Education and Lantern School.
School hours (Foundation Phase only)
- School starts at 07h30
- Closes – Monday to Thursday: 13h30, Friday: 13h00
Timetable
- Home language (English and Afrikaans), Maths, First additional language (English and Afrikaans) and Life Skills are dealt with every day.
- The percentage of time each learning program uses is dependent upon various factors:
• pace of each class
• needs of individual learners
• when learners go to therapy — speech, occupational, psycho therapy or remedial therapy
- It is practiced at the discretion of each educator.
- The Foundation Phase has two waiting classes as school is finished a half an hour earlier than the rest of the school.
- Some learners do not go home earlier and they remain in the waiting class.
Therapy
- Identified learners will leave class at a set time during school hours either in a group or individually to receive speech, occupational, psycho or remedial therapy.
- Should the therapist's timetable be full, identified learners will be wait listed.
- Learners are expected to complete homework assigned by each therapist.
- Poor co-operation from learner and parent can lead to discontinuation of therapy.
Homework
- Grades 1 to 3 are given homework every day and can include Fridays.
- Homework allows the learner to re-enforce activities, practice skills and basics learnt in class.
- Parents are expected to form a partnership with the educator and help as much as they can via homework.
- The amount of homework is left to discretion of educator and it will include maths, life skills and languages every week.
Sport
- The Foundation Phase does not take part in 'senior sport'.
- We take part in athletics during the first term.
- During the rest of the year, we have 2 periods per week of motor and ball skills.
Gr 1-3 Grondslag Fase
Skoolure (slegs Grondslag Fase)
- Skool begin om 07h30
- Skool kom uit – Maandag tot Donderdag 13h30, Vrydag 13h00
Rooster
Terapie
