Gr 4-6 Intermediate Phase

The Intermediate Phase consists of Grades 4 to 6. The medium of instruction is English and Afrikaans. We work within the guidelines as set out by the Gauteng Department of Education and Lantern School.

School hours

• School starts at 07h30
• Closes – Monday to Friday: 14h00

Timetable

• A daily timetable of 11 periods of 30 minutes each is followed.
• Home language (Afrikaans and English); First additional language (Afrikaans and English); Maths; Social Science; Natural Science & Technology and Life Science form part of the curriculum.
• The time spent on each subject is determined by the Department of Education.

Therapy

• Identified learners will leave class at a set time during school hours in a group to receive speech, occupational, or remedial therapy
• Should the therapist's timetable be full, identified learners will be wait listed
• Learners are expected to complete homework assigned by each therapist
• Poor co-operation from learner and parent can lead to discontinuation of therapy
• Psychology therapy is offered on an individual basis.

Homework

• Grades 4 to 6 are given homework every day and can include Fridays.
• Homework allows the learner to re-enforce activities, practice skills and basics learnt in class
• Parents are expected to form a partnership with the educator and help as much as they can via homework.
• The amount of homework is left to discretion of the educator.

Sport

• A variety of sport is offered ranging from athletics, rugby, soccer, netball, cricket and chess.
• A PT period of 1 hour is worked into the timetable on a Wednesday.
• During this period learners get the opportunity to practice with their coaches.
• Learners that do not take part in any sport, develop their motor skills with their register teacher.

Cultural

• Learners have the opportunity to take part in revues and the Mr & Miss Lantern pageant in order to build their self-esteem.

Gr 4-6 Intermediêre Fase

Die Intermediêre Fase bestaan uit Gr 4 tot 6. Onderrig vind plaas in Afrikaans en Engels. Ons werk volgens die riglyne van die Gautengse Departement van Onderwys en Lanternskool.

Skoolure

• Skool begin om 07h30
• Skool kom uit – Maandag tot Vrydag 14h00

Rooster

• Die rooster bestaan uit 11 periodes van 30 minute elk, daagliks.
• Huistaal (Afrikaans en Engels), Eerste addisionele taal (Engels en Afrikaans), Wiskunde, Sosiale Wetenskap, Natuur Wetenskap en Tegnologie en Lewens Oriëntering is deel van die silabus.
• Die tyd wat aan ‘n betrokke vak spandeer word, word deur die Departement van Onderwys bepaal.

Terapie

• Leerlinge wat terapie moet ontvang, sal die klas op bepaalde tye in ‘n groep verlaat vir spraak-, arbeids-, remediërende- of sielkundige terapie.
• Indien die terapeut se rooster vol is, sal die leerlinge se name op ‘n waglys geplaas word.
• Daar word van leerlinge verwag om die huiswerk wat die terapeute vir hulle gee, te doen.
• Indien leerlinge en ouers nie hulle samewerking gee nie, kan terapie gestaak word.
• Sielkundige terapie word op individuele basis aangebied.

Huiswerk

• Grade 4 tot 6 kry elke dag huiswerk en dit mag selfs Vrydae insluit.
• Deur die huiswerk te doen kan leerlinge werk hersien, prakties beoefen en die basiese konsepte toepas wat in die klas geleer is.
• Daar word van ouers verwag om in vennootskap met die onderwyser/es te wees en so leerlinge te help met huiswerk waar moontlik.
• Die hoeveelheid huiswerk sal deur die onderwyser/es bepaal word en sluit in Wiskunde, Lewens orienteering en tale.

Sport

• ‘n Verskeindenheid sport word aangebied by die skool, onder andere atletiek, rugby, sokker, netbal, krieket en skaak.
• Leerlinge het ‘n sportperiode van 1 uur op Woensdae waartydens hulle saam met die sportafrigters oefen.
• Leerlinge wat nie aan sport deelneem nie, bly in registerklasse waar motorise oefening gedoen word.

Kultuur

• Leerlinge kan aan die Mnr & Mej Lantern kompetisie deelneem en sodoende hulle selfbeeld opbou.
