If, following the assessment, it is determined that Lantern School can meet your child’s educational needs, he/she will be able to join Lantern School immediately (depending on availability of space as determined by the Johannesburg West education department). What about text books?

This is a privilege and demands responsibility from our learners

  • Learners will receive their text books free of charge at the beginning of the year and at the end of the year the text books should be handed back, in a good condition.
  • If a text book is lost or damaged, the learner has to pay for the cost of replacement at the finance office and the receipt must be handed to the subject teacher.
  • Should a learner leave the school before the end of the year, all text books must be handed in before the transfer card will be issued.
  • Learners will be required to pay a fee for their work books in certain subjects. This fee is non-refundable as these text books do not have to be handed back, but remain the property of the learner.
Does the school have a medical department?

We have two registered nurses on site who are responsible for administering medication to learners and conducting drug testing where required. Their role also includes health education, research, counselling, first aid, care coordination, referrals, and liaison with relevant service providers, as well as conducting home visits when necessary.
