About Lantern School

Lantern School is a remedial school that caters for learners with specific learning barriers from Grade 1 to 12. We offer the mainstream GDE departmental CAPS curriculum.

Learners may be placed back into a mainstream school after satisfactory progress has been made. Our classes are small in order to provide learners with the best possible assistance. We also provide learning support, speech-language therapy aswell as occupational therapy in the primary school.

Lantern School is not a school for learners with serious behavioural problems.

Our learners have the opportunity to take part in various activities such as rugby, netball, cricket, soccer, athletics, tennis, chess and cultural activities

Lantern School provides an extensive transport system to and from various towns and suburbs such as Randfontein, Randburg, Krugersdorp and Brixton.

Oor Lanternskool

Lanternskool is ’n remediërende skool wat voorsiening maak vir leerders met spesifieke leerhindernisse vanaf Graad 1 tot 12. Ons bied die hoofstroom GDO-departementele CAPS-kurrikulum aan.

Leerders kan teruggeplaas word in ’n hoofstroomskool nadat bevredigende vordering getoon is. Ons klasse is klein om sodoende aan leerders die beste moontlike ondersteuning te bied. Ons bied ook leersondersteuning, spraak-taalterapie en arbeidsterapie in die laerskool.

Lanternskool is nie ’n skool vir leerders met ernstige gedragsprobleme nie.

Ons leerders kry die geleentheid om aan verskeie aktiwiteite deel te neem, insluitend rugby, netbal, krieket, sokker, atletiek, tennis, skaak en kultuur aktiwiteite

Lanternskool beskik oor ’n omvattende vervoerdiens na en van verskeie dorpe en voorstede soos Randfontein, Randburg, Krugersdorp en Brixton.

History / Geskiedenis

Lantern School

Lantern School was officially opened on 9 January 1985. The first principal was Mr L. C. Robinson. At the time the school rented buildings from Rand Mines Pty Ltd in Maraisburg. In 1985 education was provided from Grade 1 to Standard 2 (Gr 4) and the school had 46 learners. At the end of 1989 Lantern School relocated to the premises of Westgate Primary School after Westgate Primary School’s amalgamation with Princess Primary School. In 1993 Lantern School had the first group of matrics.

Lantern School aims at assisting children with an average or above-average IQ who have been identified with learning disabilities. Learners chould be placed in a mainstream school once effective strategies to manage their barriers to learning are in place.

Lanternskool is amptelik op 9 Januarie 1985 geopen. Die eerste skoolhoof was Mnr. L. C. Robinson. Destyds het die skool hul geboue gehuur by Rand Mines (Edms) Bpk in Maraisburg. In 1985 is onderrig aangebied vanaf Graad 1 tot Standerd 2 (Gr 4) en die skool het 46 leerders gehad. Aan die einde van 1989 het Lanternskool verskuif na Princess Laerskool Westgate se perseel, nadat Laerskool Westgate saamgesmelt het met Laerskool Princess. In 1993 het Lanternskool sy eerste matriekgroep gehad.

Lanternskool fokus daarop om kinders met ’n gemiddelde of bogemiddelde IK wat geidentifiseer is met leerprobleme, te ondersteun. Leerders kan teruggeplaas te word in ’n hoofstroomskool sodra daar effektiewe stategieë is om hul leerhindernisse te hanteer.
