School Governing Body (SGB)
2026
Lantern School is proud to have an active and engaged School Governing Body (SGB), that plays a vital role in the governance and strategic direction of the school. The current Chairperson of the SGB is Mrs C. Strydom.
About the SGB
With more than 25,000 public schools across South Africa, each institution is supported by a democratically elected School Governing Body (SGB). The SGB plays a vital role in ensuring the effective governance of schools and in advancing the national vision of providing quality education for every learner.
Participation in SGB elections empowers parents and community members to actively contribute to decision-making that shapes the educational experience and future outcomes of our youth. This is a valuable opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting impact within your community through education.
Composition of the SGB
The School Governing Body consists of the following members:
- Elected Representatives
- The Principal (by virtue of office)
- Co-opted Members
- Parents or Guardians
A parent refers to:
- The biological parent or legal guardian of a learner.

- A person who undertakes to fulfil the obligations of a parent or guardian.
Note: A parent who is employed at the school may not serve as a parent representative on the SGB.
