Cultural activities at Lantern School aim to ignite a lifelong passion for music, drama, poetry, and language. Learners are exposed to diverse forms of art, literature, and performance.
We offer various cultural activities. We have yearly participation in the RACA Eisteddfod. Learners enter in various categories, including drama, singing, dancing, visual art and group performances. These performances are celebrated at an annual Culture Evening. Every three years, one of the highlights is the Revue, were we aim for whole school participation.
Choir festivals are also hosted and Mr and Miss Lantern competitions are organized. A Creative Writing competition also forms part of the activities.
Performing on stage builds self-esteem and learners improve their verbal and non-verbal communication skills. It also encourages imaginative thinking and innovation. It also has been linked to better memory, concentration, and listening skillls. Performing boosts morale, encourages continued participation, and may even open doors to future opportunities.
Achievements
Every year Lantern School has nearly to 200 entries for the RACA Eisteddfod. Learners achieve outstanding results and are awarded Special Awards by judges and at Gala events. In recent years, learners have been awarded the Culture Learner of the Year award at District Level by the Department of Education.
Learners have also achieved Provincial and National Colours for Performing Arts at Talent Africa and the South African Championship of Performing Arts. They have also represented South Africa internationally in performing arts.
