Support at Lantern School

Learning Support

Learning support is designed to identify and address learning difficulties by assessing where and when challenges first emerged in a child’s school journey or pre-primary years. Through this process, the specific subject areas of concern are identified, and a personalised programme is developed to focus on these areas and support the learner in overcoming them.

The therapy provides structured learning support in core areas such as reading, spelling, writing, and mathematics. It also includes the development of essential skills such as vocabulary building, reading strategies, spelling rules, comprehension, and effective writing techniques.

By addressing the root causes of the difficulty, learning support rebuilds the learner’s foundational skills, enabling them to overcome challenges and achieve long-term academic success.

Learners in Grades 1–6 receive learning support either individually or in small groups of 2–4 learners, with sessions held twice a week. Progress in reading, spelling, and mathematics is assessed annually to track development and adjust support as needed. A multidisciplinary team approach ensures that learners’ progress is closely monitored, and the support provided remains consistent and effective.

Learning support cover the following areas:

  • Spelling
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Handwriting
  • Comprehension
  • Numeracy (Preschool to Grade 4)
  • Study skills and schoolwork management
